Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a collaborative therapy where you work with the therapist to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and beliefs, which might be causing or contributing to your current distress and psychological difficulties. Once awareness is raised the next step is to look at how your thoughts and behaviours can be adapted to improve your state of mind and empower you to make more positive changes for the future.
CBT tends to be offered on a short term basis and has been shown to be particularly successful in alleviating moderate to severe anxiety, depression and symptoms of panic and stress.
Person-centred therapy (PCT)
PCT works on the assumption that given the right conditions all individuals can develop their own unique approach to life, which will lead them to feel more fulfilled and content in their relationship with others and their own self concept. It is a non-structured form of therapy that encourages you to be curious, accepting and open to your experiences, trusting in your capacity to overcome and grow from the challenges life presents.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is an eastern-based practice, which can support us to accept the present moment, without trying to fix, change or push anything away. It can be cultivated through meditation and encourages our minds to become more comfortable with 'just being'. I see it as a perfect antidote to the racing mind, which is constantly trying to achieve, problem solve and strive for more or better. Becoming more mindful in your day-to-day life has been evidenced to improve emotional stability, alleviate insomnia, increase attention capacity and promote stress resilience.
Emotional energy release/trauma processing
I work to alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress by supporting you to mindfully track your emotions and physical sensations in order to access trauma held within your body and to gently release it. It is a process that is ideal for anyone experiencing symptoms, such as panic attacks, distressing flashbacks, nightmares and/or feelings of disconnection.
